If you love Transformers then you must own this Toy,
Yes it is a remake but it looks great and down the line it will be worth something.
It looks like the original and when they remake something that looks so good you must own it.

Starting to build my collection of toys that I once had or wanted to have as a child- now comes Megatron!

The Takara Reissue version is a double boxed set that looks as if someone took the time to think how they would package it while also making it look awesome.

If you’re looking for a G1 version- then you got to have this one. It gives you some little extras also that other reissues wont give you. Good purchase and for the price which was FAIR and not overcharged – you can’t go wrong with Takara Reissue.

This is the closest to the original you will ever get! Although all reissue transformers are inferior to the original japanese versions in my opinion. Takara is now manufacturing these toys in China . They are close to identical but the craftsmanship and quality control is nothing compared to the 80’s Versions. But they are overall good quality reissues.

This is a very NICE piece, the case itself is very thick&stirdy, very colourful and the item inside is WELL SHOWN! There are a few small pcs (NOT recommended for small kids)like the purple mace(see Epsd1-3 ofTRNSFRMRS G1)amongst other weapon pcs.”I RECOMMEND THIS PIECE” if you’re a TRANSFORMERS FAN or a MEGATRON FAN,if you are NOT don’t bother you won’t APPRECIATE IT. LOOKS NICE ON A DISPLAY CASE TOO!

This is exactly what I have been looking for.
If you are looking for a G1 Megatron from your childhood this is as close as you can get.
I was thrilled with reproduction and quality.
      I felt like I was 7 again.
All the extra accessories are a HUGE bonus.
This one shoots little bullets and has his energy mace.

I love this toy. It is close to the real deal Megatron. My son plays with it and I love that it isn’t an easy puzzle to put together. Everytime I atempt to transform it, it is a challenge. I’m glad I bought it. = D

My fiancé was soooo excited when he opened this for Christmas! It came in a really cool box and does not have the orange cap when in gun mode. Kinda difficult and delicate to transform, but definately worth it! A very cool collectable. Would not recommend for children. Shipped very quickly.

As several have said, I too own the Masterpiece Optimus Prime. And while a bit challenging to master, he is a very sturdy, very good figure.
About a year ago, I bought Masterpiece Megatron… and unfortunately he doesn’t live up to the quality Optimus does.
Megatron ships in his robot mode, which doesn’t look bad, in fact it does look good, except his limbs are a little too thin. The designers tried to compensate for this by having parts that widen to try to bulk him up, but it isn’t fully successful. And if picked up in the wrong way, these pieces collapse back into place.
He has a good amount of possibility, but the problem is that parts meant to turn and pivot don’t do so too well.
He also has his hhhuuuuggggeeee fusion cannon. It’s massive compared to him. Bigger than is should be compared to robot mode. It’s scaled for gun mode, which causes the problem for bot mode. And it’s so heavy that it’s tough to pose him with it on his arm holding his arm up. His arm almost always has to hang down. When a friend of mine first saw him, he wondered why he had a big freaking cannon coming out of his side. I certainly couldn’t get him to arm his cannon straight ahead like the picture on this page shows him… at least not with some additional support.
And transformation… what a nightmare. But maybe I’m being too dramatic. I love transformers, and rarely have a problem with the most complex of them, but this guy gives me serious problems. In more than a year of owning him, I can’t have tried to transform him more than a hand full of times, because he’s just so fragile. In fact, I did break off a tab on one of the trigger guards one of my first times converting him.
When (and if) you complete transformation, you wind up with an over sized Walther P-38. He looks pretty good in this mode.
Accessory wise, he comes with his fusion cannon (of course) which has a red LED inside to simulate it firing. He comes with his energy mace (to offset Optimus’ energy ax), mountable on his arm. Although, the chain for the mace is too long, and I wish they would have put a piece of wire or something to pose him with it swinging in mid air.
Then there’s his lightsaber (with detachable blade) and hand gun, both from his final fight scene with Optimus in the 1986 movie. And then a little Kemzeek figure.
Overall, the figure is… frustrating to play with. If you get him into the desired mode you want him in, he looks good. But he wouldn’t hold up to much play at all.
Simply put, the designers were tasked with too big a challenger: Make a realistic looking gun into a robot. And not just any robot, into Megatron, and given a specific way to transform him. And they tired, but the end product wasn’t exactly what we hoped for.
So buyer beware… if you want a Masterpiece Megatron to ofset your Masterpiece Optimus Prime, and are willing to put up with the frustration of both transformation and posing the robot AND the fact that the robot mode isn’t as good as Optimus’s, this figure might work for you. If you’re looking for a figure for a child, look somewhere else. I’m serious. This figure will not stand up to rough play ware.

There’s a lot of negativity in these review and frankly, I think it has far more to do with people’s uninformed expectations than it does with the toy’s overall quality.

Is it imperfect? Sure, there are one or two things I wish were changed. Honestly though, I don’t see how they could have done much of it differently. THAT’S IT.

First off, understand what you’re getting. Go to YouTube and check out the multiple reviews available, which have surprising variety. Here are the things to keep in mind:

      (1) Yes, it’s perhaps the most complex transformation on the market. That comes from it being a marvel of engineering and ingenuity, NOT from it being a poor quality toy. Honestly, *you* try turning a Walther P38 into a figure even remotely resembling the animated G1 character. It took a genius to design this thing, and my hat is off to whoever it was.

      (2) Yes, it’s fragile. I will agree that die-cast would have been a better choice, and in fact this is my one true complaint with the product. That said, you should know better if you think it’s either a kid’s toy or something to be handled casually. I’ve transformed mine perhaps TWO DOZEN TIMES since I got him a little over two months ago, and frankly, it’s held up beautifully, with NOTHING broken to date. You just have to know what you’re getting into with something like this. Period.

      (3) Yes, it can be tricky to pose with his fusion (arm) cannon. This is simple physics, not a flaw. In order to keep the scope to scale with Megatron in gun mode, that was the size it required. I myself wish it were smaller, but I get their reasoning behind it. I will admit his poses require a bit of thinking, but with just a little effort (and perhaps research) you can get some great, stable poses out of him. Just know, again, that you’ll have to compensate for how it’s weighted. After all, the feet are designed for flexibility AND strength to help offset any other difficulties.

So, are we clear? Complex transformation. Handle with care. Some creativity for posing required. THAT’S IT. The rest is unmitigated beauty of form, function, and design.

I mean, the G1 animators REALLY cheated with Megatron, yet the designers here STILL pulled it off! I did not think it was possible to make a realistic, G1-accurate Megatron in both gun and robot modes, yet here it is waiting for you. It’s so detailed and so intricately well-built that I find myself handling and staring at him on my desk constantly. Every day I’m glad to have him.

Of course, I was a fan of the toy back in the day, and I remember even at eight years old thinking the toy they’d put out back then was disappointing and quite frankly, just plain hideous (if you’d bought it for me then, I’d likely have cried!). It did not transform like the cartoon and Megatron in robot form looked like he’d been through a mangler, then melted briefly. So if this is some kind of child-wish fulfillment, so be it. I have always been predisposed to handling and keeping delicate / intricate things, and that certainly helps as well.

Myself, aside from the diecast issue, have no true complaints. Do I wish the legs were less spindly? Sure. However, I don’t see how it could EVER be physically possible. Do I wish the cannon was smaller? Sure. If it was, however, I’d be irritated it wasn’t to scale with his gun mode, so somebody had to make a choice on that one and I respect it.

So yeah, if you read this and look at the YouTube reviews, know what you’re getting into and take my advice, then I can’t see how you would have anything but a GREAT TIME with it for years to come. Every day I look at it and smile, and I don’t see that changing.

      Lowenstein February 4, 2010 at 5:00 am

As a huge G1 Transformers fan I have been wanting this figure since I first heard that it was coming out. My first impression was how big this figure is, it was massive and had a good heft to it. Megatron’s robot mode looks beautiful and is very close to what he looked like in the old cartoon. Also his gun mode is a very realistic, although slightly oversized, Walther P-38. I can fully understand why you should never point him at a cop. Really the most amazing thing to me is how the engineers managed to to nail both modes and maintain all the articulation and attention to detail. Unlike other reviewers I had no problems with transforming him, although I would suggest looking for videos of his transformation on youtube since the instructions can be hard to follow. I really have nothing negative to say about him except that I wish he would have come with a stock and silencer like the old G1 toy, but you can get a set as an add on.

Pros: Awesome amount of detail and articulation. Sturdy. Some really nice accessories like the energon mace and sword.

Cons: Slightly oversized in gun mode, but that’s not a huge thing in my opinion.

Final Thoughts: The biggest thing to remember is that this is not a toy. This is a figure made for collectors and not kids. The transformation is pretty complex and there are small pieces that can and will break if not properly watched for.

      Irwin February 4, 2010 at 6:42 am

As a big G1 fan and collector, I decided to give this figure a shot seeing as how it is much closer in appearance to G1 prime than most figures. It is a nice figure and a nice homage, with only a few minor problems. It has a nice die cast grill in the front in truck mode, unfortunatley the design put this in the back in robot mode, and you get a painted gill instead. speaking of the back, it has quite a bit of kibble and excess bulk in the back in robot mode, which looks wierd. The transformation isn’t too complicated, but some of the parts don’t always seem to fit right, and need to be forced into place. The smokestacks make the gun in robot mode, which is kind of cool, but if you want him holding the gun, you won’t have smokestacks in robot mode. A bit small for a prime figure, but bigger than the other figures from this line, which is cool. The detail is nice, and is probably as close as you’ll get to G1 prime without spending 100-200 dollars for a masterpeice or original. Seems to be built pretty durable and again, is very faithful to the original in truck or robot mode. So if you don’t feel like opening up the wallet for masterpeice,20 anniv., or original, then this is the Optimus for you.

dear customers, i purchased this version of Optimus Prime over three weeks ago and i am still very impressed with it.unlike some usa made versions this one had die-cast metal parts and while not for a very little child :3-5yrs it is vey durable, easy to transform and well worth the price i do wish they had mentioned it stands in robot mode about 7 in. tall but over-all a good product.if i had the money to afford it i would buy a second one to keep in its package. it is that good. five stars over-all

Hello,I have just received this today(Jan23rd)after ALONG wait! GOTTA say it’s WAS well worth it though. The box-art is VERY NICE. The product ITSELF is pretty close to the originals(I know this because I still have them!)even though the pics don’t give it enough justice. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this item(if you’re a FAN,I recommend you should get it),you can’t go wrong with a 2-pack. THIS IS A VERY NICE PIECE to own as a fan, collector or either. Looks GREAT in a display case as WELL.

      Tapper February 4, 2010 at 9:33 am

This is a must have for any Transformer fan & Collector. A complete re-issue of a classic toy.
Even if you don’t collect TF this item will bring hours of fun to any kids day. Every boy & girl
should have a transformer at least once in their life, and this would be a great one. Two for
the price of one, who could ask for a better bargain.

      Dickens February 4, 2010 at 9:55 am

i got this figure earlier this year the Japanese mold is better for Thundercracker for the dark blue instead of the light blue for hasbro re-issue also the missiles are the same ones for g1 mold from 80s and there no the long ones that hasbro did now they did fix the error on the starscream version where his cockpit was flimsy and skywarp paint job is great he is also a must own for any G1 transformer Fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Lincoln February 4, 2010 at 11:16 am

This Figure is a very nice Bumblebee. Aside from some differences this is a very good homage to G1 bumblebee. Recommended

      Reade February 4, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Well for G1 lovers, this is probably the most accurate G1 bumblebee in robot mode ever made. Ofcourse now that they no longer are allowed to use the beetles anymore, this is about as close as you will get in car mode also. Very detailed, and looks great in robot mode mode, does leave alittle to be desired in car mode. The transormation is easy, but the windsheild fells like it’s in danger of breaking during the transformation. no weapon, just some weird jet ski that transforms into some weird jetpack. Those are the only complaints about this one though.
Fans of the original bumblebee this is the figure for you.
