G1 Significant Guide

I bought this Starscream for my girlfriend (he is her favorite character) and she absolutely loves it. I like it too. I have a fairly sharpened sense of what a good toy is (worked at a toy/collectibles store for four years and own many many toys myself) and this is one of the best. I’m also a Transformers fan to the Nth degree, so my judgement of a Transformer that costs more than twenty bucks is usually pretty harsh. I paid sixty bucks for mine, but they’re usually much pricier these days (more on that later on).

Starscream is really solidly made. It’s definitely stronger and more well built than your average Deluxe (the smaller and most common size of Transformer, usually 4″-8″ in height) and leagues above a Voyager class (twenty bucks and up, usually 8-10 inches tall). An unwelcome change to Transformers these days is that a lot of them are constructed very flimsily (case in point: Animated Skywarp and Starscream – absolutely cheapo plastic). Provided your kid (or you) doesn’t like to test out how hard they can force something, it should stand up for a long time under normal play. However, like any toy, if your kid likes to play “throw the jet and make it fly” in the parking lot, I’m not sure how it would hold up – any toy would break under that kind of play.

The detail on this toy is ridiculously good. I have seen cold-cast resin statues of characters that cost upwards of six hundred dollars and this toy has more details than they did. In jet mode, he looks like an extremely detailed model of an F-15 Eagle, all the way down to the wings actually being curved like on a real jet and the ailerons (the little flaps on the back of the wings that control flight) actually moving. Insane detail.

One really cool thing is that he comes with a stand. Make no mistake, if you like Starscream then this is the one and only toy to get your hands on. He stands on the stand in jet or robot mode and looks great in either one of the two. The colors are absolutely accurate to G1 Starscream and this is a terrific addition to any TF fan’s shelf. I’m looking at it right now and I kid you not that it looks like I paid upwards of two hundred bucks for a statue of Starscream (in either mode) – but it’s the toy.

Now on the price. When this toy originally came out it retailed [...] I got mine for [...](and I searched for a long time). An uncomfortable reality these days is price gouging for toys like this that are released for a very small amount of time.

Even though I will say that this toy is worth $60-$80, it still makes my jaw drop that a lot of sellers want $100+ (and more) for it. Eighty dollars is a little steep on price but if Starscream is your favorite character then it’s worth it (if you REALLY like Starscream).

Awesome toy, terrific everything, just spend some time and make sure you’re paying a (somewhat) reasonable price for it.

I am very happy with it, but I would not recommend it for someone below the age of 8. It is very fragile and worth a good amount of money.

Most of the time the Takara Japanese toys are the better versions of transformers. I hate to sound like one of those people who think if its made somewhere else its better than what we do here in the states. But, in the case of the transformers it is true for the most part. This to me is the Masterpiece Starscream to own. Who wants realism. I want Starscream to look like he did in the cartoon, not a real fighter jet. I just got this and I love it Starscream being my favorite character you can’t do better than this. Yes 90 big ones is steep, but if your a collector you have to own this. In fact as a collector you have to have atleast one Masterpiece transformer. This is the cheapest one so this is a good place to start. In my opinion though you have to own the Prime. One because its Prime, two because it is that good, and three because it Optimus Prime nough said!!! Anyway back to this toy. In feel as though its perfect. Buy it as a gift or for youself. Lata
